Testosterone Metabolites Test Profile

Testosterone Hormone Replacement - Navigate These Waters Safer With New Hormone Tests

Testosterone replacement therapy can be safe and effective when done correctly with proper lab testing. This serum profile will help you identify important ratios related to prostate cancer risk and prostate health. Also, it can help you better prevent hyperaromatization of testosterone to estrogen.

A review by the Biology of Reproduction Journal states, “We believe that a higher incidence of low-differentiated tumors in the finasteride-treated arm observed in the Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial is caused by altering the normal differentiation of prostatic epithelium in the environment lacking the natural ERB ligand—3β-androstanediol.” 3β,5α-Androstanediol is a metabolite of dihydrotestosterone  included in this profile.

Testosterone Metabolism Sample Report

Testosterone metabolites test indicated for:

  1. Men taking patented 5-alpha reductase inhibitors such as finasteride (Proscar ©, Propecia ©),  dutasteride (Avodart ©), turosteride, bexlosteride, and izonsteride, to guard against the high probability of 5-alpha reductase over-inhibition with consequent oversupression of the anticarcinogenic testosterone metabolite “3 beta-Adiol”.
  2. Men taking saw palmetto, or large quantities of zinc, GLA or other natural 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors.
  3. Men with a family history of prostate cancer, to look for weakness in the internal synthesis of “3b-Adiol”
  4. Women with apparent 5-alpha reductase over-activity (hirsutism) to check for excess testosterone and/or excess DHT, and to monitor in case of therapy with 5-alpha reductase inhibitors to guard against 5-alpha reductase over-inhibition

Pathway:

Testosterone -> 5a DHT (strong procarcinogen) -> 5a-Androstane 3b,17b-diol (“3b-Adiol”), a strong anti-carcinogen.

NEW TESTOSTERONE METABOLITE PROFILE INCLUDES

  • 3β,5α-ANDROSTANEDIOL
    • Low levels may be associated with increased prostate cancer risk. Ratio to DHT is important.
  • TESTOSTERONE
    • Total testosterone is measured.
  • DIHYDROTESTOSTERONE
    • Active metabolite of testosterone.
  • ANDROSTENEDIONE
    • Prohormone to estrogen & testosterone.
  • 3α,5α-ANDROSTANEDIOL
    • Associated with prostatic hypertrophy.
